Welcome to the Land of Enchantment - A Short Memoir of a Young Marriage

Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Linda M. Kurth paints a colorful picture of life as a young newlywed far from home in the late 60’s. With a dash of humor, the author explores her transformation into adulthood, becoming part of Rex’s dysfunctional family, and her growing love for the Southwest. One of Linda’s Quick Reads.

Welcome to the Land of Enchantment, a prequel to author Linda Kurth’s memoir, God the Devil, and Divorce, reveals the power of opposites attracting. Linda and Rex, magnetized by strong, physical attraction, marry young. On the surface, the couple seem a good match with similar goals, the scientist and artist complementing one another. However, we sense trouble is brewing. Anger flares, a drinking problem is exposed, and physical abuse ensues. Like Gretel in Grimm’s fairy tale, Kurth drops breadcrumbs, foretelling more unhappiness. I am primed to read the story of what follows, leading the narrator, I hope, from victimhood to victor in the end.  Marian Beaman, memoirist
